Don McCullin sits low with a camera ready in VN048. His green clothing, helmet and compact equipment place him among the troops, but the camera identifies his different purpose. King & Country based the pose on a photograph taken by fellow photojournalist Nik Wheeler during the fighting at Hue.
A Marine holds a leash while a German Shepherd lowers its nose toward the ground. VN050 contains the handler and dog; the reference sheet shows the same pair from two angles. The Marine retains his weapon and field equipment while following the animal’s lead.
VN035 shows Gunnery Sergeant John Canley bending over a wounded Marine and grasping him to move him. The casualty lies with bandaged, bloodied legs extended, while Canley’s forward lean conveys the effort of lifting another man. This is a two-figure rescue scene rather than a standing celebrity portrait.
Two American military policemen escort a wounded Viet Cong prisoner in VN034. The prisoner’s raised arms and bloodied clothing occupy the center, flanked by the armed MPs. King & Country based the group on a photograph connected with the fighting at the US Embassy in Saigon.
VN033 models the M42 Duster named “Double Trouble,” with twin 40mm Bofors guns in an open mounting. Two seated gunners are included, along with a side-mounted M60 and radio antennas. The olive-drab vehicle’s open fighting area allows the crew and gun mechanism to remain visible.
VN031’s Australian patrol commander stands with binoculars in one hand and an L1A1 self-loading rifle in the other. He wears a bush hat and green field clothing. The figure was originally offered during King & Country’s Australian visit before becoming more widely available.
A female Viet Cong figure carries a wooden box high against her shoulder in VN028. Her rifle remains slung beside her body, while both arms help manage the load. Bare lower legs and dark clothing contrast with the more heavily equipped American figures in the same series.
VN022 is a kneeling North Vietnamese soldier aiming an RPG launcher. He wears a pith-style helmet and carries additional rockets behind his shoulders. The launcher’s projecting warhead and the ammunition on his back distinguish him immediately from the nearby AK-armed figures.
A Navy corpsman bends over a wounded Marine lying on his back. The corpsman holds a fluid container above the casualty, while an M16 lies alongside them. VN018 contains the two men as a medical scene; the M274 Mule sometimes paired with it is the separate VN017 release.
The Marine in VN014 raises binoculars to his eyes while holding his M16 muzzle-down in the other hand. His helmet, flak jacket and field equipment match the early Vietnam Marines. The release contains the single NCO; artillery or recoilless-rifle crews shown alongside him elsewhere are separate sets.
