King & Country · Vietnam · VN048
Don McCullin sits low with a camera ready in VN048. His green clothing, helmet and compact equipment place him among the troops, but the camera identifies his different purpose. King & Country based the pose on a photograph taken by fellow photojournalist Nik Wheeler during the fighting at Hue.
The historical setting
McCullin photographed the Marines’ battle to retake Hue in February 1968. His images became part of the visual record from which later generations understood the fighting. They also influenced figures in this miniature range, giving this release a direct connection between the photographer, the historical images and the later sculpted interpretations.

Review
The seated posture is an excellent choice: it feels like a brief working pause rather than a photographer posed for his own portrait. The camera remains prominent without being oversized. This adds a civilian witness to a series otherwise heavily populated by combatants.
