The brown uniform gives this Portuguese light infantry figure a distinct place among British green and French blue. Del Prado’s standing caçador is a compact way to bring Portugal into a Peninsular War collection.
The trumpet and pale horse make this rider stand apart from a row of cavalrymen. His Portuguese identity matters just as much: the Peninsular army was never exclusively British.
Beresford’s richly braided uniform makes an imposing standing portrait. The more useful story is his work with the Portuguese Army and the difficult coalition command represented by the year 1811.
