King & Country · Vietnam · VN028
A female Viet Cong figure carries a wooden box high against her shoulder in VN028. Her rifle remains slung beside her body, while both arms help manage the load. Bare lower legs and dark clothing contrast with the more heavily equipped American figures in the same series.
Historical inspiration
Moving food, ammunition and other supplies was an essential part of sustaining a guerrilla force. The distinction between carrying and fighting duties could be less clear than the separate poses in a miniature catalog suggest. King & Country makes the point directly by including both the supply box and the carrier’s weapon. The box’s contents are not identified.
Review
The weight carried above the shoulder produces an unusual and convincing silhouette. It is a welcome subject because the action is specific, rather than another rifle held at the ready. The slung weapon also keeps the figure’s military identity visible without making the composition revolve around firing it.
