USMC044 exchanges the movement of a rescue for a small act of care. A Navy corpsman kneels beside a wounded Marine and holds a cup toward him. The casualty’s open shirt and exposed chest make his vulnerability visible, while the corpsman’s medical bag helps identify the other man’s role.
Blue headgear, a pink-toned garment and a tall polearm make this Venetian sailor an unusual medieval subject. The figure brings the armed maritime world into a collection more often filled with knights and battlefield infantry.
Red clothing, armour and a walking horse make Morosini an imposing mounted portrait. Del Prado’s cavalry series includes this Venetian naval commander and doge, showing how a mounted figure can represent status as well as battlefield service.
A peaked cap and dark naval clothing give this officer a restrained appearance. Del Prado’s figure belongs to the Imperial German Navy of the First World War, an important distinction in a range containing several later German naval subjects.
Bicorne, decorated dark coat and pale breeches make Del Prado’s Nelson a compact command portrait. The standing admiral brings the war at sea into a collection whose other figures are often grouped by land campaign.
The dark coat and sailor’s cap make this a naval subject at once. They do not, however, identify a submarine crewman. Del Prado’s sailor is a chance to widen the naval story beyond the U-boats that dominate so many accounts.
VN009 places a kneeling corpsman beside a seated, bare-chested Marine whose torso has been bandaged. The wounded man’s helmet rests on the ground. The figures face one another closely enough that the scene reads as an exchange, not two unrelated poses. It brings a quieter and more vulnerable moment into the VN collection.
The dark blue coat, red waistcoat and trousers, and cocked hat give this naval officer a formal eighteenth-century appearance. He is a reminder that Del Prado’s Napoleonic collection also reaches into the revolutionary years that preceded Napoleon’s empire.
The object held by this Canadian sailor is the key to the figure: a signal lamp. His cold-weather clothing and helmet frame a naval communications subject that is easy to misidentify in a small auction photograph.
