King & Country · Vietnam · VN050

A Marine holds a leash while a German Shepherd lowers its nose toward the ground. VN050 contains the handler and dog; the reference sheet shows the same pair from two angles. The Marine retains his weapon and field equipment while following the animal’s lead.
Military dogs worked with trained handlers in roles that depended on scent, hearing and close cooperation. Patrol and detection work could reveal signs that a human patrol might overlook. The low nose and extended leash depict searching, although the sculpt alone cannot tell us exactly what the animal has detected or assign it a named mission.
Review
The dog’s posture is the strongest feature. It gives the handler a reason to pause and watch, producing a relationship rather than two unrelated figures. The two-angle reference is particularly useful for seeing how the leash joins that small composition.
