NA025 presents a mounted chasseur holding a carbine while controlling the reins. The dark green uniform, decorated saddle equipment and tall headgear make a colorful subject whose role is more specific than a generic French cavalryman.
NA068 arches backward with the musket still in his hands. The catalog identifies a wounded Highlander, and the unusual body angle makes that interruption visible among the more controlled infantry poses.
NA067 is a defensive Highlander, braced low with the musket and bayonet angled outward. The pose introduces a different intention from a kneeling firing figure, despite the similar height.
NA054 commits the body to a forward thrust. Seen from behind or the side, the extended arms, pack and long weapon explain the movement more clearly than the frontal view alone.
NA053 carries a large Union-pattern color that rises well above the Black Watch officer. The flag becomes the visual center of the piece, with the smaller human figure explaining who bears it.
NA052 is an unusually forceful musician subject. The drummer has turned a long firearm into a close-combat weapon, while the drum remains strapped to his body and makes the action look awkward in a revealing way.
NA050 turns the kilted Black Watch silhouette into a low firing position. The weapon stretches horizontally beyond the figure while the dark bonnet and pack remain high behind the bent body.
NA049 holds the long musket close to the body, ready for the next movement. The compact pose works between the Black Watch’s formal standing figures and its more forceful hand-to-hand subjects.
NA047 lifts a Black Watch officer above the foot figures on a rearing horse. The raised forelegs and the rider’s tall bonnet give the piece a much larger visual presence than the standing command subjects.
NA038 is an officer at rest, with a restrained gesture and a clear view of the Highland uniform. He supplies a calm center for the early Black Watch group rather than another large action pose.
