King & Country · Napoleonic · NA049
NA049 holds the long musket close to the body, ready for the next movement. The compact pose works between the Black Watch’s formal standing figures and its more forceful hand-to-hand subjects.

A useful pause in an active group
The figure’s value lies in readiness. He is neither firing nor committed to a bayonet lunge, so he can sit beside several stages of action without dominating them. Use the direction of his face and weapon to connect him to the group. A neutral pose still needs a clear relationship to the neighboring figures.
The kilt is an identification clue, not the whole story
The feather bonnet, crossbelts, pack and patterned hose complete the figure’s visual identity. They also distinguish him from the trousered early 71st soldiers. The Black Watch’s history gives a starting point for understanding the unit behind that distinctive appearance.
A compact pose with exposed details
The musket is close to the body, but its bayonet and the bonnet’s colored projection still extend into open space. Check both before accepting a condition description. White crossbelts over a red coat make paint chips quite visible in a sharp photograph; a soft, bright image can hide them. A reverse view helps confirm the pack and lower equipment.
