King & Country · Napoleonic · NA047
NA047 lifts a Black Watch officer above the foot figures on a rearing horse. The raised forelegs and the rider’s tall bonnet give the piece a much larger visual presence than the standing command subjects.

Mounted does not mean cavalry regiment
An infantry officer could use a horse to move and observe while commanding men on foot. NA047 therefore belongs naturally with Black Watch infantry; the mount does not turn him into a Scots Grey or another cavalryman. That distinction is worth preserving in a collection record, especially when a resale title is shortened to “Scottish cavalry officer.”
The historical scale of the scene
The Black Watch’s Napoleonic service provides the context for the uniform. In a small vignette, the mounted figure can suggest direction or a moment of urgency without being identified as a particular named officer. Use a specific battle label only when the rest of the display has been checked against that campaign’s uniforms and participants.
Inspect the support as carefully as the sword
A rearing horse puts visual and physical emphasis on the legs supporting the casting. Examine the base connections, lower legs, reins and raised weapon. Ask for a side view showing how the horse meets the base. The model needs more shelf clearance than a standing horse, both above the rider and in front of the lifted legs.
