King & Country · Napoleonic · NA054
NA054 commits the body to a forward thrust. Seen from behind or the side, the extended arms, pack and long weapon explain the movement more clearly than the frontal view alone.

The bayonet determines the composition
The point reaches well beyond the base. Give it open space so the viewer can follow the action, rather than burying it inside another figure’s silhouette. A slight diagonal across the display is often more effective than aiming straight toward the viewer, which can make the weapon almost disappear through foreshortening.
The equipment follows the body
The pack and straps remain on the soldier as he lunges. They help convey the burden of the movement and make the back of the sculpt informative. The patterned kilt and hose give the lower body a distinct Highland character even when the face is partly hidden by the arms and weapon.
Buying a figure with a long reach
Compare the line from the hands to the bayonet tip and inspect the wrists for repairs. Look at the raised edges of the pack and the base beneath the feet. Ask how the projecting weapon will be protected in transit. The original sculpt’s reach is part of its appeal, but it also makes a close-fitting generic box a poor guide to adequate packing.
