French Military, Napoleonic era
NA017 raises a horn in one hand while carrying a long firearm and bayonet in the other. The yellow-and-green accents make this a lively companion to the early French infantry and a useful introduction to the light-company role.
A pale blue jacket and a large drum distinguish NA016 from the darker-coated French infantry. The figure gives a marching display an audible idea: men moving together to a shared rhythm.
NA013 gives the early French marching group a sword-bearing leader. The tall red plume and blue coat make him visually compatible with the infantry, while the different weapon helps the viewer find his role within the column.
FW060 gives Joseph Joffre a compact, confident stance: dark tunic, red trousers, kepi, binoculars and sword. The colourful portrait belongs to the French opening-war group, but its history is more complicated than the reassuring nickname “Papa” suggests.
The kepi, white moustache and red breeches identify Joffre’s portrait. Conflicting 1914 and 1918 retailer labels make the date worth checking before choosing a display.
