King & Country · Vietnam · VN058
VN058 depicts a barefoot Vietnamese prisoner seated with his hands behind him. He wears dark trousers and a light yellow shirt, with no weapon in his hands. His bent legs and slightly turned head make the pose distinct from the standing captive in the Saigon Embassy Trio.
Historical inspiration
Capturing prisoners was part of the war’s military operations, but a miniature’s clothing and posture cannot establish an individual’s identity or personal history. King & Country identifies this subject as Viet Cong. The sculpt represents the condition of captivity; it does not document a named interrogation or tell us what happened to the man afterward.

Review
The seated position is restrained and readable, with the head turn preventing a lifeless, symmetrical pose. It is a specific human subject rather than an action figure with its rifle removed. The release is most effective when its limited identification is respected.
