King & Country · Vietnam · VN065

VN065 depicts an Australian Centurion with a long main gun, turret machine gun, antennas and extensive stowage. The commander is visible at the turret opening. Its broad tracks and heavy turret contrast sharply with the light patrol vehicles elsewhere in the Vietnam range.
The historical setting
Australian Centurions served with 1st Armoured Regiment in Vietnam. At Coral and Balmoral in May 1968, tanks supported the defense of the fire support bases and worked with infantry against enemy bunkers. That fighting demonstrated the value of close cooperation between infantry and armor in terrain often assumed to favor only lighter forces.
Review
The stowage makes the tank look occupied and worked from, while the visible commander helps communicate its size. The appeal is both mechanical and historical: it gives the Australian part of the collection a major fighting vehicle with a distinctive Vietnam service story.
