King & Country · Vietnam · VN004
VN004 depicts a US Marine firing an M16 from the shoulder. He wears a covered steel helmet, flak jacket and field equipment, with his feet spread and upper body turned into the shot. The exposed arms and loaded vest give the pose the close, crowded appearance characteristic of King & Country’s early Vietnam Marines.
Historical inspiration
The M16 changed the silhouette of the American infantryman: a straight-line stock, carrying handle and compact magazine replaced the wood-stocked profile familiar from earlier conflicts. In the Marine squad, riflemen operated alongside automatic weapons and other specialists. This figure represents that basic rifle role rather than a machine-gunner or grenadier.

Review
The turned shoulders make this more convincing than a soldier simply holding a rifle horizontally. Helmet, vest and pouches remain readable around the firing pose. It is a straightforward fighting figure, with the weapon handling doing most of the expressive work.
