NA148 Mounted Russian Officer
Product reference photograph.

King & Country · Napoleonic · NA148

NA148 is a mounted Russian officer in a dark green uniform, bicorne and tall boots. His decorated green saddlecloth is edged in yellow, and the horse advances at a measured pace. The figure belongs with the Russian releases around NA149 rather than the French cavalry in similar dark coats.

The historical setting

Mounted officers could move between parts of a formation more quickly than men on foot and observe from a higher position. That was useful around artillery, where command involved watching the battle and coordinating the guns. The model’s restrained pace suits that supervisory role; it does not need to be interpreted as an officer charging with cavalry.

Review

The green and yellow horse furniture is the strongest visual feature. The rider’s calm posture also gives the Russian group a different rhythm from the busy gun crew. It is a clear command companion with enough decoration to remain interesting as a single mounted piece.
