King & Country · Napoleonic · NA093

NA093 shows a mounted chasseur carrying a standard topped by an eagle. The red outer garment, fur cap and decorated saddlecloth give the figure a ceremonial richness, while the horse steps forward beneath him. The flag supplies much of the model’s height and color.
The Chasseurs à Cheval of the Imperial Guard were closely associated with Napoleon’s mounted escort. A standard expressed regimental identity and provided a visible rallying point. It was more than an ornament: losing or capturing one had significance far beyond the material value of the cloth and staff. The model gives that symbol the central position.
Review
The flag and richly detailed rider make a strong focal subject. The walking horse keeps the composition from competing with the standard’s movement. This is particularly appealing for collectors interested in the Guard’s distinctive dress and emblems rather than another sword-fighting pose.
