King & Country · Napoleonic · NA149
NA149 combines a Russian field gun with four crewmen. The green carriage and brass-colored barrel create a distinctive center, while the gunners work around the breech and trail with ammunition and implements. Their dark green coats, pale trousers and tall shakos distinguish the crew from British horse artillery.
Russian artillery was an important component of its Napoleonic armies, supporting infantry and occupying key battlefield positions. A battery’s effect depended on coordinated crews and ammunition supply, not merely the number of barrels present. The four men here make several immediate gun-service tasks visible within one compact release.
Review
The varied bending and standing figures are a particular strength. Their activity makes the gun feel operated, and the green carriage gives the set its own visual identity. It is an effective complete artillery group rather than a collection of interchangeable attendants around a cannon.
