King & Country AK North Africa figure, artillery and vehicle articles.
The AK084 Panzerjäger I looks as though its gun has outgrown the vehicle beneath it. King & Country mounts the Czech-designed 4.7 cm anti-tank gun on a Panzer I chassis, behind a tall angular shield.
The bonnet shape and open driving position of AK077 look different from the German trucks around it, and that difference is the point. King & Country depicts a captured British Morris CS8 15 cwt truck with a German driver.
King & Country’s AK076 is a single military policeman whose equipment makes his occupation immediately legible. He wears a tropical sun helmet with goggles above the brim, a green tunic and pale trousers gathered above his boots.
AK075 combines an unmistakably Italian tank shape with conspicuous German crosses. King & Country’s Afrika Korps M13/40 has a compact riveted hull, a rounded turret and a crew figure visible at the open hatch.
AK054 changes the activity on the shelf from fighting to filming. King & Country pairs a standing correspondent holding a microphone with a cameraman leaning into a movie camera on a tripod.
The tall enclosed body of AK052 immediately separates it from an ordinary supply lorry. King & Country’s Funkkraftwagen is a radio truck with an Afrika Korps driver, finished in brown mottling over a sandy base.
King & Country’s AK037 Opel Blitz gives a desert collection something every tank needs: transport behind it. The truck comes with an Afrika Korps driver, a detailed cab and a removable rear canopy; the release description also specifies rolling wheels.
There is a pleasing imbalance to King & Country’s AK008: the rider sits high over the motorcycle while his companion is tucked down in the sidecar, behind a mounted machine gun. The two-man combination has a sandy finish, a spare wheel behind the passenger and luggage that makes the small vehicle look ready for a journey.
King & Country AK060 Water Supplies Set depicts two Afrika Korps soldiers sharing a drink. One supports a jerrycan while the other bends forward with a cup. Both wear shorts and retain their field equipment; the green tunic of one soldier contrasts with his companion’s pale tropical clothing. Released in September 2010 and retired in December 2012, it is a two-figure set built around a single shared action.
The frame antenna is the first thing to notice on AK029. It rises above the open halftrack and makes this command vehicle recognizable even before the “Greif” lettering is read. The standing Rommel figure provides the familiar personal association, but the vehicle’s communications equipment is what gives the set its distinctive outline.
