NA120 Dead Cuirassier
Product reference photograph.

King & Country · Napoleonic · NA120

NA120 depicts a fallen French cuirassier and his horse. The rider’s metal breastplate, helmet and decorated saddle equipment remain visible within the collapsed group. Unlike an upright casualty figure, the low composition makes the animal’s body a major part of the subject.

Horse and Rider Fallen Together

A cavalry unit’s losses included its mounts as well as its men. Once a horse fell, its rider could be injured, trapped or separated from the unit’s movement. This release addresses that shared vulnerability directly. It represents the aftermath of combat without establishing a particular cause of death or named incident.

Review

The interlocked horse and rider make a forceful composition. The familiar bright cavalry equipment takes on a different meaning when viewed on the ground. It is a specific casualty subject whose interest comes from the relationship between animal and rider, rather than an extra dramatic gesture.
