King & Country · Vietnam · VN081

VN081 pairs two SAS patrolmen in different camouflage clothing. The pointing leader wears an ERDL-style pattern; his companion wears tiger stripe. Both carry modified SLRs with extended magazines, and the leader’s rifle has a shortened barrel and forward grip. Their faces, equipment and clothing are prepared for concealment.
Historical inspiration
Special forces patrols depended on observation and avoiding detection, with equipment adapted to their work. King & Country’s release notes emphasize the modified rifles and mixed camouflage rather than a uniform parade-ground appearance. That is the distinguishing idea behind the set: two men from the same patrol can carry related weapons without looking identically dressed.
Review
The different uniforms and individual gestures make this an unusually varied pair. The pointing leader supplies a clear connection between them. The modified rifles reward close inspection and distinguish these figures from the standard SLR-armed Australians in the regular patrol range.
