King & Country · Napoleonic · NA052
NA052 is an unusually forceful musician subject. The drummer has turned a long firearm into a close-combat weapon, while the drum remains strapped to his body and makes the action look awkward in a revealing way.

A musician pulled into a fight
Drummers had duties beyond providing a decorative soundtrack. Military music and signals were part of how units organized themselves. This sculpt shifts attention to the individual when those orderly functions break down. The drum is still present, so the figure cannot be mistaken for a regular infantryman simply carrying a musket in an unusual position.
A distinct companion to the piper
NA035 presents Highland music in a formal, recognizable pose. NA052 shows a very different moment involving a drummer. A comparison of the two gives the collection more range than adding another identical firing figure. It also makes clear that a shared musical role does not mean the figures represent the same activity or instrument.
The drum is part of the condition assessment
Inspect the drum rim, cords and attachment as well as the weapon. A clean red coat does not guarantee that the fine drum details are intact. Ask for views from both sides so the instrument’s shape and the figure’s grip can be compared with the reference. Keep the projecting butt and bayonet clear of the packing walls.
