King & Country · First World War · FW188
FW188 equips an open Ford Model T with a Vickers machine gun, a seated gunner and a driver. King & Country’s contents description also identifies the folded gun tripod and the driver’s Lee-Enfield rifle in the rear. The vehicle remains recognizably a light car, with its occupants and equipment exposed.

A Familiar Car in an Armed Role
The Model T served in many military roles because a widely available vehicle could be adapted to different jobs. Here the Vickers gives a small motor vehicle a fire-support function, while the carried tripod suggests the gun’s separate ground mounting. The National Army Museum’s Machine Gun Corps history describes the wider development of specialized British machine-gun organization.
Review
The two crewmen and crowded rear compartment are the best parts of this release. Unlike an enclosed armored vehicle, it lets the collector see how much equipment has been fitted into a modest car. The tripod is a particularly satisfying detail because it helps explain the weapon’s use beyond the vehicle.
