King & Country · Napoleonic · NA098
NA098 contains a light six-pounder field gun and four Royal Horse Artillery crewmen. Their dark blue uniforms, crested helmets and pale crossbelts contrast with the gun’s blue-grey carriage. The crew carries the implements needed around the gun, with standing and bending poses distributed across the group.
Four Gunners with a Six-Pounder
The Royal Horse Artillery was created to provide mobile gun support for cavalry. Horse artillery’s mobility depended on the organization of its men and horses as well as the weapon itself. This release concentrates on the gun in position; the teams and transport needed to move it are not included.
Review
Four figures give the gun a convincing working crew, while the varied postures keep the composition readable. The blue-grey carriage and dark uniforms form a coherent palette. It is a complete artillery subject with a clearer sense of coordinated labor than a cannon sold alone.
