King & Country · Napoleonic · NA037
The long polearm is the defining feature of NA037. It gives the sergeant height and authority beside the standing Black Watch infantry, even before the viewer notices the sash and other uniform details.

A weapon that also marks a role
British infantry sergeants retained polearms into the Napoleonic period. In a model group, that makes the NCO easy to distinguish from the musket-armed rank and file. The catalog calls the weapon a pike; in historical discussions of British sergeants, the related term spontoon is also encountered. Keep the manufacturer’s title in searches while describing the role clearly.
Use the Black Watch companions
NA035, NA036 and NA038 provide a piper, infantryman and officer with related visual treatment. The Black Watch regimental history is useful background for the group. Arrange the figures so their different equipment can be read independently rather than hiding the sergeant’s hands behind another model.
The tallest part is the first check
Look for a straight shaft and a complete metal head, then inspect the points where the weapon passes the hand. A long, thin pole can arrive bent even when the paint is otherwise excellent. Ask about packing clearance above the head and check the bonnet hackle, which is another small projection easily missed in a distant photograph.
