NA097 is cataloged as a sergeant, a useful distinction in a range full of officers. His telescope and composed stance bring an experienced non-commissioned role into the artillery display.
NA087 builds a three-figure encounter around Sergeant Charles Ewart and the standard of the French 45th Line. It is a compact way to explore both a battlefield capture and the later memory created around it.
The bright sleeve decoration and raised instrument distinguish NA084 before the viewer notices the pale horse. This is a cavalry figure whose purpose can be explained through sound and recognition rather than a drawn weapon.
NA083 combines a pale mount with a richly painted standard. The cloth supplies the strongest block of colour above the rider and makes this an immediately recognisable centrepiece for the early K&C Scots Greys group.
The horse lowers its head while Wellington looks outward through a telescope. NA077 sets a commander’s concentration against an animal’s ordinary behaviour, making this personality piece more engaging than a rigid equestrian portrait.
The raised ramrod gives NA076 a different rhythm from the firing figures. It catches a necessary, exposed stage of a rifleman’s work and makes a small infantry display more informative than a continuous row of weapons at the shoulder.
NA071 holds the weapon level at the shoulder, giving the KGL group a clear direction of fire. The restrained pose is useful for examining the practical difference between a rifleman and the familiar image of a densely packed musket line.
The green uniform of NA069 opens a story that a shelf of British redcoats can miss. The King’s German Legion served in the British Army, bringing Hanoverian experience and identity into the coalition that fought Napoleon.
NA066 restores the horse to a group usually displayed around a stationary cannon. The mounted officer makes an artillery collection easier to understand as a mobile organisation with routes, orders and transport needs.
The telescope brings NA065 into a quieter part of an artillery action. This officer is watching and judging while the gun crews work, a useful contrast to the movement and noise suggested by the surrounding figures.
