FW079 places two French soldiers behind a tripod-mounted machine gun, with sandbags immediately in front. Both men wear the blue coats and red trousers of King & Country’s early French series. The weapon’s exposed, finned barrel gives it a different outline from the water-jacketed German Maxim in FW052.
A Scottish soldier embraces his sweetheart in FW073. His khaki uniform, pack and slung rifle announce his departure, while her patterned skirt and civilian blouse make the contrast immediate. The two figures form one close farewell scene rather than a military action group.
FW068 shows a French drum major holding his mace across his body. The dark tunic, bright red trousers and kepi echo the early-war French infantry, but his white gloves and directing baton distinguish his job. Despite the title, the figure does not carry a drum.
A French infantryman stands beside a saddled horse, holding its reins. His red trousers and blue coat match King & Country’s early-war poilus. The riderless animal carries the saddle and equipment, while the soldier retains his own infantry kit. No mounted general is included.
FW064 contains three French infantrymen marching with rifles and fixed bayonets. Red trousers, dark blue coats and red-topped kepis give the group its unmistakable early-war appearance. The men have individual marching poses and carry their packs and rolled equipment rather than stripped-down fighting loads.
King & Country’s Foch leans into a telescope on a tall wooden tripod. His red trousers and kepi place the figure in the colorful early-war French army, while the black coat separates him visually from the marching infantry. The instrument is a substantial part of the release’s composition.
FW058 combines a German 77mm field gun with three crewmen in 1914 dress. The shield, large spoked wheels and low trail dominate the model, with the gunners arranged around the working end of the piece. This is the early-war alternative to FW057’s later-war crew.
A kneeling German gunner operates a Maxim-pattern machine gun while a second soldier brings ammunition. King & Country identifies the weapon as the Maxim ’08. The belt hanging from the receiver and the water jacket around the barrel make the equipment as prominent as either man. Both figures wear early-war uniforms and spiked helmets.
FW046 depicts a British infantryman carrying a wounded soldier across his shoulders while retaining his rifle. Both wear khaki and steel helmets. The carrier bends into the weight, with the casualty’s limbs and equipment hanging around him. Despite occasional muddled catalog labels, this is a rescue pair, not a flagbearer.
FW036 is a mounted German Uhlan sounding his bugle. The square-topped cavalry headgear, grey uniform and brown horse distinguish him from the infantry musicians in the FW range. His instrument is raised while the horse remains comparatively composed: the action is in the rider rather than a theatrical gallop.
