King & Country · Texas Revolution · RTA001
A pointing arm, a black horse and an elaborate uniform make RTA001 instantly legible as a command figure. Santa Anna brings the Mexican leadership into an Alamo collection, with a pose that works best when it has troops—and some open space—in front of it.

A president in the field
Antonio López de Santa Anna was both a political leader and a soldier. Elected president of Mexico in 1833, he moved from support for federalism toward centralist government, part of the political rupture behind the Texas rebellion. The Alamo’s Santa Anna teaching resource follows that change. His presence in this range connects a local siege to a struggle over how Mexico would be governed; it deserves more explanation than a familiar nickname or a villain’s portrait.
Give the gesture a destination
Place Santa Anna behind or beside a Mexican infantry group, angled toward the action. A ladder bearer farther forward provides a visible task for the command gesture to connect with. Keeping a gap between them prevents the pointing hand from disappearing among bayonets. A small command scene can also work without a building: the horse supplies enough height to organize a shelf display around it.
What to check on a secondhand example
Ask for views of both sides, the raised arm, plume and horse’s legs. Look for abrupt changes in paint texture around projecting details and for damage where the horse meets the base. A seller’s photograph taken only from the front can conceal a repair behind the rider. The source image is a reference for appearance, not evidence of the condition of the item offered.
A useful counterpart
RTA056 Sam Houston makes an informative companion on a broader Texas Revolution shelf. Separate labels can explain their opposing roles without suggesting that the two mounted figures faced one another inside the Alamo. Sagers records RTA001’s introduction in August 2006; the long life of a release does not, by itself, establish how many examples survive or what one should cost.
