King & Country · WWII U.S. Marines · USMC058
USMC058 brings together four Marines under green rain capes: an officer with an M1 carbine, a BAR gunner and two men with Garands. The covered shoulders and hanging cloth dominate their outlines, while exposed weapons identify different jobs within the group. The front-and-back reference views show four figures in total.
In the set: Four Marines: officer with carbine, BAR gunner and two Garand riflemen.

At Cape Gloucester, monsoon rain flooded kitchens and fighting positions, soaked equipment and added illness to the demands of combat. The official Marine history records an environment in which movement and even ordinary rest became difficult. It is a useful historical comparison for these wet-weather figures, without claiming that the set depicts a particular photographed patrol.

Rain was part of the campaign
The set’s four men suggest a mixed patrol group rather than a complete wartime rifle squad. The carbine, automatic rifle and two Garands create visible variety even though the rain clothing hides much of their web equipment. That balance prevents the capes from turning all four figures into the same repeated shape.
Review
The clothing is the attraction here. King & Country has made weather part of the subject instead of treating it as background scenery. The subdued movement suits that choice. Individual equipment is less prominent than on the uncovered infantry, but the four different weapon roles keep the group from becoming anonymous.
