King & Country · Napoleonic · NA185
NA185 depicts a Coldstream Guards flagbearer walking with a Union-pattern colour held forward on its staff. His red coat and pale trousers contrast with the flag’s blue field, white diagonals and red cross. The forward foot and angled staff distinguish him from the more stationary NA126.
Carrying the Colour on the March
A colour had to accompany its battalion on the move as well as stand within a formal formation. Its bearer therefore needed to control a long staff and a large area of cloth while keeping pace. The figure makes that ordinary physical responsibility visible, rather than presenting the flag as a free-floating emblem.

Review
The walking pose is the reason to choose this release. It gives the large standard a believable carrier and changes the rhythm from the standing colour officer. The flag remains the focal point, but the body beneath it has enough movement to make the composition feel connected.
