King & Country · Afrika Korps · AK128
AK128 depicts a kneeling Afrika Korps NCO using a field telephone, with a submachine gun slung behind him. His goggles sit on his cap and the telephone case rests beside his knee. The set consists of one figure and its associated equipment.
Historical inspiration
German artillery communications included the portable Type 33 telephone described in the Field Artillery Journal in 1941. The important distinction for this scene is between a wired telephone and a radio. Both pass information, but a telephone implies a connection laid to another position. King & Country’s release description imagines the NCO reporting an approaching enemy or requesting support; those are possible scenes, not an identification of a particular historical message.

Review
The sculpt includes enough equipment to make the NCO’s job clear without surrounding him with loose accessories. I particularly like the slung weapon: he remains an armed infantryman while using the telephone. Compared with AK082’s two prone observers, AK128 offers a smaller, more self-contained communications figure, though it lacks the exchange between two men.
