King & Country · Napoleonic · NA029

A bareheaded British officer stands between two French soldiers in NA029. The dropped equipment and the questioning figure make it one of the early range’s most effective conversations in miniature.

Three figures, three roles

The catalog description identifies a captured British officer, a questioning Chasseur à Cheval NCO and a guarding voltigeur. The saved image shows the prisoner’s damaged clothing and equipment at his feet, while the green-clad questioner holds a document or map. The guard’s upright weapon supplies a clear boundary to the scene. Each person contributes a different action, so the group does not need additional combatants to become understandable.

The ground tells part of the story

The fallen hat, sword and telescope described in the product record give the officer a lost professional identity as well as a lost weapon. Keep these objects visible when arranging the figures. The three bodies form a loose triangle; compressing them shoulder to shoulder makes the scene look like a group portrait. A plain patch of ground works particularly well because the viewer’s attention stays on faces, gestures and the belongings below.

Completeness is a narrative question

A sale containing only two figures loses one of the scene’s essential roles. Compare every visible component with the reference, including the small objects on the ground. Ask for close-ups of the guard’s bayonet and the prisoner’s feet, where accessories can be concealed by shadows. The reason to seek the whole set is not merely to satisfy a checklist: the interaction among all three figures is what makes NA029 distinctive.
