The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL074

AL074 extends the AL range’s mounted movement to a New Zealand rifleman. The fixed bayonet and forward motion give the figure an immediate action role, while its national identity makes it more than a substitute for one of the Australian riders.

Keep the national group visible

The product record describes a Kiwi soldier galloping with his bayonet already fixed to the rifle. In a large mixed group, that distinction can be lost unless the collector supplies a clear arrangement or label. I would consider displaying the New Zealand mounted subjects together, with AL073’s flagbearer or the later AL086 officer providing a focal point.

This approach lets the figures share a visual language with the Australian releases without erasing the separate formation they represent.

A charging sculpt is not a complete battle account

The New Zealand Mounted Rifles played an important part in the fighting around Beersheba, notably at Tel el Saba. The NZ History account of the Third Battle of Gaza describes the wider operation and the role of different formations.

That context is worth keeping beside AL074. A mounted action pose should not lead to a caption that simply inserts the New Zealanders into the famous charge by the Australian 4th and 12th Light Horse Regiments. The campaign offers a broader history than that single image.

What the figure contributes

For display, the rifle and bayonet extend the rider’s direction beyond the horse’s head. Give that line somewhere to go: an open stretch of ground works better than a wall of other figures immediately in front. The sculpt can lead a small moving group or provide an energetic edge to a national collection. Its value is both visual and historical, provided the article and label preserve the New Zealand identity.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL074 product record lists March 2017 as the release date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
