The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL072
AL072 looks familiar at first: a slouch hat, a rifle and a soldier in shirtsleeves. Look more closely and the figure introduces the New Zealand Mounted Rifles to a collection whose series name might otherwise encourage you to label everyone Australian.
The uniform details do the explaining
The product description points to the green stripe in the hatband, the absence of an emu feather and the cloth puttees instead of the Australian leather leggings. It also identifies the bandolier and .303 SMLE rifle. These are useful features for comparing the reference image with a loose figure in a mixed collection.
They give AL072 a role beyond simply being another rifleman. The small differences in clothing invite the viewer to recognize an allied formation with its own identity.
Mounted rifles, dismounted fighting
The New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade served with the Anzac Mounted Division in the Sinai and Palestine campaign. NZ History’s account of its horses follows the men’s dependence on their mounts through long distances and difficult conditions. A figure on foot still belongs fully in that mounted story.
For a more specific battle connection, the New Zealanders’ fighting at Tel el Saba on 31 October 1917 helped open the way to Beersheba. Their contribution should not be collapsed into the later Australian mounted charge.
A useful figure for a comparison display
I would put AL072 near an Australian dismounted trooper with enough separation to compare the lower legs and headgear. Two figures can make an effective miniature uniform study without needing a battle scene at all. That is why this quieter release belongs in the catalog: it rewards close looking and makes the range’s national variety visible.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL072 product record lists March 2017 as the release date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
