King & Country AL037 Aye Ready camel trooper, decorative saddle blanket; two views of one figure

The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL037

The jacketed trooper in AL037 sits with his rifle resting across his thigh, his attention directed beyond the camel. Beneath him, a green fringed blanket adds a bright band between the khaki uniform and the animal’s sandy coat.

One figure, two views

The reference photograph shows two angles of the same release. It is especially useful here because the rider’s pose and the saddle decoration are easier to understand together than from a single frontal view.

The title’s readiness comes from the seated posture and the carried rifle. He is watching rather than firing, which makes him a quieter companion to the AL range’s more energetic action subjects.

The original and the B version

King & Country’s November 2012 dispatch distinguishes the original decorative blankets from the regulation blanket versions carrying B suffixes. This article records plain AL037; AL037(B) has its own catalog entry.

The jacket also helps separate him from AL038, whose rider wears rolled sleeves. These are useful visual clues when several camel releases appear in one dealer photograph, particularly if the boxes are absent or their labels are hard to read.

The animal was transport to the fight

The Australian War Memorial’s introduction to camel service explains that cameliers dismounted for combat. A seated, rifle-carrying miniature therefore shows one part of their work, rather than defining their fighting method.

The height of the saddle is striking beside a standing infantry figure. The long legs, narrow neck and bulky carried equipment make a camel patrol look very different from a row of horses, even when the men wear familiar Australian headgear.

A good middle figure for the patrol

Between the turning officer of AL036 and the more relaxed clothing of AL038, this trooper supplies a steady, jacketed presence. The three poses have enough difference to reward a close look while their animals and equipment hold the group together.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL037 product record lists a release date of December 2012 and a retirement date of July 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
