The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL038
Rolled sleeves and an open neck give AL038 a noticeably different character from the jacketed camel trooper beside him in the release sequence. His rifle rests across his lap while the camel lowers its long neck, making a relaxed-looking silhouette with a clear direction of attention.

Clothing changes the story
The product description emphasizes the removed wool jacket. That small change lets the sculpt suggest heat and everyday comfort without adding a building, a campfire or an elaborate scenic base.
Exposed forearms and the open shirt interrupt the otherwise uniform block of khaki. The rifle remains conspicuous across the rider, balancing the informal clothing with the equipment of his service.
The blanket is more than decoration
The original AL038 carries a colourful patterned blanket. The 2012 manufacturer announcement also identifies AL038(B), with an army blanket replacing the decorative treatment.
Keep the suffix with the image when recording either version. Both have the shirt-sleeved rider, so the uniform alone will not settle the identification. Here the patterned red-toned saddle area is an essential part of the plain-code release.
Listen to the men who rode them
The Australian War Memorial’s Camel Corps sound feature brings together recollections by men who served with the formation. Their accounts cover experiences as different as military language, casualties and the difficulties of medical transport.
Those voices broaden a display beyond the appealing shape of the animals. A camel could be an everyday working mount, a source of discomfort and a remembered companion, all within the same campaign.
The lowest head in the trio
The animal’s downward reach changes the spacing needed around the figure. Allow room in front of its muzzle and compare its line with the more upright animals of AL036 and AL037.
That variation is the pleasure of the trio: an officer looking back, a jacketed watcher and a man in shirt-sleeve order. Each adds a different moment to a patrol while keeping the mounted group visually coherent.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL038 product record lists a release date of December 2012 and a retirement date of July 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
