King & Country · Afrika Korps · AK073

AK073 is a corrugated airfield hut with desert camouflage, projecting windows, roof ventilators and a numbered entrance. King & Country presents it as an Allied structure captured and reused by German forces. It is sold as one scenery piece.

A little architectural history
The Nissen and Quonset names are related, but they are not identical designs. A U.S. Army history of military buildings explains that the American Quonset hut drew inspiration from the British Nissen hut of the First World War. Portability, economical construction and useful shelter drove the American development.
Review
The curved roof and corrugation give AK073 a recognisable outline, while the windows, door fittings and fire equipment provide more detail than a plain shelter. The camouflage is quite conspicuous; it will suit some desert collections better than a neutral building would. The original catalog sheet shows different door numbers, so the photographs of the actual example are useful when choosing a version.
