Del Prado · Figure study

The First Special Service Force is a good antidote to sorting every miniature into a single national box. This Del Prado soldier represents a formation built from Americans and Canadians and equipped along American lines.

The joint force behind the nickname

The Canadian War Museum’s exhibition record identifies the Force as a mixed Canadian-American commando organisation formed in 1942. It fought in Italy and took part in the liberation of Rome before disbanding in December 1944. That relatively short existence helps explain why the unit can be historically significant without fitting a long regimental lineage.

Read the clothing before inventing a biography

The photographed miniature has a netted helmet, a short green jacket, web equipment and contrasting trousers. Its standing pose lets the equipment remain visible. The retail description calls the subject a private first class but does not supply a personal name. Keep that distinction: the figure represents a role in a documented unit, not automatically a portrait of a particular decorated soldier.

A small display about cooperation

Place the figure with a short Italy campaign map or beside separately identified American and Canadian infantry. The useful comparison is shared service and equipment, not an invented mixed-unit firefight. Check the hands, weapon, helmet net texture and straps when buying. If the booklet is included, verify that its subject matches the figure rather than assuming any “special forces” booklet belongs with it. This release adds value by making the multinational character of an often loosely named elite formation concrete.
