King & Country · WWII U.S. Marines · USMC041
USMC041 combines a short-barreled 75mm pack howitzer with three Marines working around it. The open carriage and exposed breech let the crew remain visible, while their differing stances turn the weapon into a working position. This is a gun-and-crew release, not three infantry figures with an unrelated artillery piece in the background.

Artillery beyond the beach
The pack howitzer was designed around the problem of moving artillery through difficult country. At Cape Gloucester, the 11th Marines used 75mm guns to support the advance on the airfields; the period photograph below records that work. The gun could accompany an expeditionary force without having the size of a heavier field piece, but it still required ammunition, observation and communication.

The crew is what distinguishes this model from a weapons inventory. Their positions bring attention to the operating end of the gun, where loading and firing took place. King & Country explicitly specifies three Marines, resolving an easy ambiguity in records that describe the set only as “Howitzer & Crew.”
Review
The visible mechanism and active crew give USMC041 a strong sense of purpose. The compact weapon does not overpower its operators, so the men remain as important as the artillery. It is a particularly useful release for showing how Marine infantry depended on fire support after the landing itself was over.
