King & Country · WWII U.S. Marines · USMC045
The large cylindrical jacket around the barrel identifies the Browning in USMC045 as a water-cooled gun. A seated Marine works behind it, with the tripod, belt and ammunition supply arranged in front of him. King & Country names the weapon as the M1917, rather than the lighter air-cooled M1919.
In the set: One seated gunner with a tripod-mounted M1917 Browning.

Cooling was part of the weapon’s purpose. Water around the barrel helped a machine gun sustain fire, at the cost of weight and the need to maintain that supply as well as ammunition. In the Pacific, the M1917 family was particularly associated with defensive and support positions. The tripod and low operator in the miniature reflect that less mobile role.
Recognize the barrel jacket
The model contains one gunner, but a wartime machine-gun position was not self-sufficient with one man. Ammunition carrying, servicing and observing the target involved other people. The single figure is a compact representation of the firing task rather than a complete machine-gun squad.
Review
The distinction from an M1919 is plainly visible, making this a more specific subject than the generic title “Machine Gunner” suggests. The gun, tripod and operator form a coherent low group. Its strength is mechanical clarity; the supporting personnel remain outside the scope of the release.
