The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS230
Large red crosses on white panels make WS230 recognizable before the small front wheels and rear tracks register. The camouflage links it visually to other German vehicles, while the medical markings immediately give this Demag a different role.

The same vehicle family, a changed purpose
Compare this ambulance with the gray WS229 transport. Both share the compact half-track outline, but the medical version concentrates attention on the covered body and the conspicuous identification panels.
The historical theme is adaptation: a transport chassis serving another task. The manufacturer presents an ambulance interpretation, without supplying the service history of an individually documented vehicle or a named medical unit.
The driver and canvas are part of the release
The product record specifies a medic driver and a removable canvas roof. Lifting off the canopy changes how much of the interior can be seen, so two photographs of the same model may initially look quite different.
The title does not establish that stretcher patients or an additional medical team are included. Those would need to be separately identified in any combined sale or display.
A more complete picture of a wartime collection
Medical transport brings the consequences of combat into a vehicle display. Its presence can connect casualty figures with a rear-area setting and give the viewer a reason to look beyond guns and armor.
WS222’s standing treatment pair and WS237’s seated casualty offer related human subjects, each sold separately. A restrained arrangement leaves enough space to read the medical markings and the interaction between figures.
The ambulance’s strongest collecting feature is the contrast between its camouflage and bright identification panels. The driver and detachable roof then reward a closer look.
When comparing examples, establish which parts are present and inspect the actual painted panels. The original reference photograph is more helpful for that task than an assumption that every Demag release has identical contents.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS230 product record lists a release date of March 2015 and a retirement date of July 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
