The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD311
Two prone GIs gather behind the .30-caliber machine gun in DD311. Their low bodies and the dark weapon create a broad horizontal composition, with the supporting figure close beside the gunner.

The historical organization adds useful context
The wartime U.S. Army rifle-company manual places a light machine-gun section in the company’s weapons platoon, alongside the 60mm mortar section. That is a more precise background than treating every machine gun as part of an ordinary rifle squad.
The miniature shows a two-man working pair, not the complete personnel and equipment of that larger organization. Its purpose is to make the immediate relationship around the gun visible.
The figures share a low plane
The men’s helmets sit close to the weapon, while packs and bent legs spread behind them. Their similar height gives the team a unified shape, unlike the standing-and-kneeling pairings elsewhere in the catalog.
The saved photograph is useful for checking both figures and the complete gun arrangement. One prone soldier by himself would not reproduce the release’s two-person composition.
A different support subject from the BAR
DD313 carries the Browning Automatic Rifle as an individual figure. DD311 centers a separate machine gun between two men, giving the infantry collection another way to represent supporting fire.
The difference is worth keeping visible even where the weapons share familiar Browning associations. Their miniature compositions and represented roles are distinct.
Let the horizontal shape breathe
A slightly elevated view shows the faces and weapon together. Tall scenery close to the front can hide the gun and leave only the backs of the helmets visible.
DD311 belongs in the collection as a coordinated low-level team. Its interest comes from the two men working around one weapon, with the company-level historical context giving that relationship a clearer place in the infantry story.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD311 product record lists a release date of November 2017 and a retirement date of June 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
