The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS170
WS170 lies curled on the ground, hands close to the body and camouflage clothing folded beneath him. A separate helmet rests nearby. It is a small, still figure among a release group otherwise occupied with moving, firing and signaling.

The title defines the subject
The catalog identifies the man as a dead grenadier of the Hitlerjugend division. The sculpt represents a casualty; it does not establish a named soldier or a specific documented death in Normandy.
The body position is compact and the face is partly turned upward. Familiar uniform patterns connect him to the active figures, while the lack of movement changes their meaning when he is placed nearby.
A casualty is not a percentage
Some older release prose combines broad casualty claims with promotional language about the division. Those claims should not be used as a substitute for a sourced operational history. Killed, wounded, missing and captured are different categories, and a figure cannot verify a numerical claim about an entire formation.
The useful historical subject here is more direct: the 12th SS fought in Normandy for the Nazi regime, and its soldiers suffered and inflicted losses. Remembering its dead does not erase the formation’s responsibility for crimes against prisoners.
A restrained place in a historical display
I would place WS170 within the scene rather than elevating him as a trophy or surrounding him with exaggerated effects. A nearby abandoned position or an otherwise active group can make the interruption clear.
The helmet and the relationship between the hands and torso are worth checking against the reference when evaluating completeness. Because the figure sits so low, a seller’s high-angle group photo may hide it among other bases. This release adds a serious pause to the 2010 Normandy figures. Its value in a collection lies in acknowledging death plainly, while keeping both the individual subject and the wider history in view.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS170 product record lists a release date of September 2010 and a retirement date of December 2011. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
