The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD253
Two olive canopies fill the upper half of DD253’s reference image, with their paratroopers suspended far below. The release shifts the airborne story into the air itself, using long lines and open space as essential parts of the composition.

The set contains two different jumpers
The manufacturer identifies both men as 82nd Airborne All Americans under open parachutes. Their small bodies and the much larger canopies create a striking difference in scale within each suspended arrangement.
The image should be read as a two-paratrooper release, rather than two views of a single figure. That distinction matters when comparing loose examples or a listing showing only one canopy.
A surviving parachute connects the shape to the equipment
The Airborne Museum’s T5 parachute record describes equipment recovered at Sainte-Mère-Église on 6 June 1944, including a dated pack and its associated canopy.
That museum example belonged to a 101st Airborne paratrooper; DD253 depicts the 82nd. The artifact is useful as a comparison for the wartime parachute system, while the miniature’s divisional attribution comes from its own release description.
The empty space is part of the display
Unlike a ground figure, a suspended paratrooper needs room above, below and around the canopy. The lines create a delicate visual structure that can disappear against a busy background.
A plain background makes the canopy ribs and suspension arrangement easier to appreciate. Keep both jumpers sufficiently separated that their lines do not merge into one tangled-looking silhouette.
Identification includes the suspension
When assessing a secondhand example, look beyond the painted figure. The canopy, lines and complete hanging arrangement are central to the release and should be visible in the seller’s photographs.
DD253 gives the catalog a dramatic vertical subject. It can make a group of ground-based airborne figures feel connected to the descent that brought them there, while remaining an interesting two-piece composition on its own.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD253 product record lists a release date of November 2014 and a retirement date of March 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
