The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD243
The soldier in DD243 raises a small cup while holding his rifle down beside him. His upward glance follows the drink, giving the figure a moment of ordinary refreshment within a catalog full of movement and firing poses.

The title leaves the contents open
The original description playfully asks whether the drink is water or French wine. The sculpt itself cannot settle that question, so the catalog keeps it as part of the manufacturer’s suggested story rather than a factual identification.
What is clear is the pause. The GI remains equipped and armed, but his attention has shifted to something immediately personal and familiar.
A small pale object becomes the focus
The cup stands out against the darker helmet and the space above the shoulder. The raised forearm creates a short diagonal leading toward the face.
Below it, the rifle and sling make a longer vertical line beside the leg. The contrast gives the figure a readable composition from head to base, even though the gesture is modest.
The campaign also contained ordinary minutes
The appeal of a resting figure lies in the change of pace it brings. A collection can show the equipment soldiers carried while also suggesting that they had to stop, drink and wait between the moments usually selected for action miniatures.
DD243 is an anonymous GI, with no named village or event attached to him in the release record. That makes the everyday gesture the historical subject, rather than a claimed recreation of a particular photograph.
A useful companion to the quieter figures
Place him near seated or resting subjects, leaving room above the cup. A low wall or parked vehicle can suggest a pause along a route without making the scene crowded.
Within the DD retrospective, Cheers adds a recognizable human habit and a lighter mood. The figure’s interest comes from the raised drink, the relaxed attention and the contrast with the equipment still hanging around him.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD243 product record lists a release date of October 2014 and a retirement date of June 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
