The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD244
DD244 holds a movie camera at eye level, both hands gathered around a compact black body. The lens takes the place normally occupied by a rifle muzzle in a standing GI pose, turning the figure into a witness to whatever scene the collector places in front of him.

The camera belongs to a larger organization
King & Country identifies the man as a U.S. Army Signal Corps cameraman with a Bell & Howell camera and a .45 pistol. The pistol holster remains visible at his side, while the camera dominates his upper body.
The National Archives’ account of Army photography describes training for still and motion-picture cameramen at Astoria, New York, along with the technicians and repair specialists who supported their work.
The footage needed people behind it
The same archive explains how wartime demand expanded the photographic service. That gives this single figure a wider context: recording a campaign involved training, equipment maintenance and processing as well as the person looking through the camera.
The Army’s official Signal Corps history discusses the Bell & Howell Eyemo as a central camera in combat filming. It provides an equipment comparison for the manufacturer’s Bell & Howell identification without requiring a model variant to be inferred from the miniature alone.
Choose what he appears to be filming
Point the figure toward the subject of the display and he creates another viewpoint within it. A moving vehicle, a group of soldiers or a quieter medical scene all become something being recorded.
Keep the camera clear of nearby faces and equipment. Its small lenses and the way it meets the hands are essential identifying details.
A companion to the still photographer
The manufacturer explicitly links DD244 to DD076, the earlier Combat Photographer. Together the two releases represent different ways the war was recorded.
This is a particularly useful figure for a historical catalog: many of the moving images through which later generations picture the war depended on people doing the job he represents.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD244 product record lists a release date of October 2014 and a retirement date of October 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
