The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD217
The bright bayonet extends DD217’s rifle well beyond the 101st paratrooper’s hands. It gives the figure a striking horizontal line while the man himself remains slightly bent and compact.

The uniform carries another story
The Airborne Museum’s reinforced M42 trousers document the heavy fabric added to knees and cargo pockets by riggers in England before the Normandy operation. The museum identifies its example with the 101st Airborne style of reinforcement.
That artifact provides useful context for the prominent darker areas seen on figures from this release group. Uniform texture is part of the airborne story, not merely a change of paint colour.
The weapon changes the silhouette
The rifle crosses the body beneath the face and then continues into the projecting blade. The forward-facing posture and turned head prevent the figure from reading as a stationary ceremonial guard.
The helmet’s netted surface contrasts with the smooth blade, while the pockets and straps break up the larger jacket areas.
A detail to give breathing room
The bayonet needs clear space ahead of it. Avoid placing another figure so close that the projecting point disappears against a sleeve or becomes exposed to knocks during handling.
A side-quarter view preserves the rifle’s full length and the bend of the legs. It is also the useful angle for checking that the weapon remains straight and intact on a loose example.
One role within the 101st grouping
DD211, DD213 and DD219 offer a map reader, kneeling rifleman and walking rifleman from the same represented division. DD217 adds another distinct weapon outline and a more immediate posture.
His place in the collection comes from that specific combination. The title identifies what is visibly fitted to the rifle without requiring an invented account of a particular close encounter.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD217 product record lists a release date of August 2013 and a retirement date of May 2016. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
