The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS096

WS096 carries his rifle over a shoulder and steps forward with his free arm swinging. The camouflage helmet cover is a small patch of pattern above the plainer tunic and trousers.

A late-war uniform in a travelling pose

The original release identifies a late-war Wehrmacht rifleman. In the saved image, the helmet cover, ankle footwear and short gaiters distinguish the outline from a figure in tall marching boots.

The different tones of tunic and trousers are also worth noticing. Even at a distance, they divide the body into readable areas instead of presenting one flat colour.

One figure, even when shown in a column

The announcement suggests displaying multiples, but WS096 is an individual release. A dealer’s photograph of several marching men should not be taken as evidence that several figures originally came in one box.

That distinction is particularly useful for a pose designed to repeat. The model provides one step in a column’s rhythm; the collector supplies the repetition.

Changing a line into a scene

A perfectly straight row emphasizes repetition and uniformity. A gentle bend around a road corner makes the same pose read as movement through a place. An officer such as WS095 can introduce a different arm position and break the visual pattern.

For a single example, a little open ground ahead is enough. The shouldered rifle indicates travel rather than an immediate firing action, so the figure does not need an opposing soldier to explain it.

The campaign between engagements

The WS historical retrospective covers the wider wartime setting. This release represents the less spectacular business of getting from one position to another.

Its place in the catalog comes from the combination of late-war dress and an uncomplicated marching pose. It is a useful counterpart to the range’s more crowded combat groups, and a reminder that a single figure can establish the pace of an entire display.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS096 product record lists a release date of March 2007. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
