The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS078

WS078 is a compact concrete bunker with two distinct gun positions. Its open upper section and rounded side position make the structure readable from several angles, while the supplied figures give scale to the thick walls.

What the release actually contains

The archived description lists the polystone bunker, a two-man MG42 team and a partial Indian Legion gunner at the side position. The fractional figure count in old listings refers to that partial sculpt, rather than a missing part of a full standing man.

WS076’s officer, riflemen and dog are a separate companion group. They can enlarge the display without becoming part of WS078’s original contents.

The Indian Legion figure needs its own context

A Bundesarchiv collection record traces the Indian Legion’s formation from Indian prisoners of war with Subhas Chandra Bose’s involvement and its later service in France.

That background explains why an Indian subject appears within a German military release. It does not establish that this particular combination defended a Normandy beach on 6 June. The model should not be used as evidence for a more precise deployment than the historical sources support.

A structure with more than one viewing face

The broad front emphasizes the concrete mass, while a higher angle reveals the two-man team. Turning the piece slightly also makes the side position and its figure easier to see.

The surface marks are part of the model’s representation of a wartime position. They do not identify a surviving real bunker or a documented sequence of shell impacts.

Why it broadens the collection

WS078 gives coastal-defence figures an architectural setting and introduces a less familiar personnel history. Its separate German-service and Indian categories help readers find both aspects without confusing nationality with the army in which a figure is represented.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS078 product record lists a release date of July 2009 and a retirement date of May 2010. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
