The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS079

WS079 places four warmly dressed crew figures around the Hummel’s open fighting compartment. A light winter finish sits over the camouflage, leaving the underlying vehicle colours visible.

A self-propelled howitzer

The Deutsches Panzermuseum collection list identifies the Hummel as a 15cm heavy field howitzer on the Geschützwagen III/IV chassis. That precise designation is more helpful than the old retailer shorthand describing it as an assault gun on a Panzer IV chassis.

The model’s open upper compartment is central to its appearance. It allows the artillery crew and weapon to become one connected scene, rather than hiding nearly all the people below a turret roof.

The winter treatment is restrained

The saved photograph shows pale snow effects along horizontal surfaces and around parts of the vehicle, with camouflage still prominent. The crew wear a mixture of light and darker cold-weather clothing.

Those contrasts make the figures easier to separate visually. Covering a display with too much additional white scenery could flatten the variations already present in the original finish.

Four figures to keep associated

The archived release specifies four crew. Their different positions around the gun are part of this offering’s identity, so a photograph showing only the vehicle does not establish whether the original group is complete.

A higher reference angle helps reveal the men and interior. A lower side view is useful for the running gear but tells less about the crew arrangement.

The artillery story behind the armour

WS079 gives a collection a mobile artillery subject with an unusually visible working space. It belongs beside other winter releases through its finish, while its howitzer and open compartment distinguish it from a tank destroyer or a turreted tank. The full code preserves this particular winter version within that broader family of tracked vehicles.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS079 product record lists a release date of October 2006 and a retirement date of February 2008. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
