The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS311

Tiger 115 arrives with a standing black-uniformed commander and his case. WS311 is unmistakably a vehicle set, yet the small human figure supplies much of its personality.

The subject comes through the cinema

King & Country ties “Karl Otto” to actor Karl-Otto Alberty and his appearances as German characters in war films, including Kelly’s Heroes. The model is a movie-inspired collecting subject, not evidence for a real commander’s wartime service.

That connection explains why this Tiger can sit comfortably in a collection organized around memorable film scenes as well as one organized around armored vehicles.

The screen tanks had another identity underneath

A reader’s technical observation in ARMOR, March–April 2000, page 55, points out that the film’s Tigers were cosmetically converted T-34s, recognizable from their running gear. Screen appearance and the underlying vehicle were different things.

The King & Country photograph should be judged on its own visible construction. The movie connection does not establish that this miniature reproduces every detail of the filming conversion.

The commander is part of the composition

Standing on the vehicle, the figure interrupts the turret’s horizontal outline. The dark uniform and case make him easy to spot against the green finish.

WS308 later offered the character separately. WS322 and WS323 provide Tigers 113 and 114, allowing the movie grouping to grow without confusing their release codes or commanders.

WS311 earns its place through that combination of tank, character and film association. Keep the turret number, full standing figure and case visible in a collecting photograph; together they tell a more specific story than a generic green Tiger.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS311 product record lists a release date of March 2015 and a retirement date of June 2017. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
